How to close or open Applications
Hide a Career, pause applications, or open the role for new applications.
You control two settings on a Career:
- Show on public careers site — the role appears on your public careers site.
- Open for applications — candidates can submit applications.
A new Career is listed on the public site. It is open for applications unless you change that.
Before you start
- You must be signed in.
- These roles can close or open applications: owner, administrator, hiring manager, and Office Administrator.
- If you are an Office Administrator, you can change these settings when the Career includes an office that you administer.
- The Career must not be archived.
Publish settings
- Open Hire, then open Careers.
- Select the Career title. This example uses Store Associate.

- Select Settings.
- Confirm that Publish is open.

Pause applications
Use this when the listing can stay visible, but you do not want new applications.
- Confirm that Show on public careers site is on.
- Turn off Open for applications.
A success message shows: This role is visible on your public careers site but is not accepting applications.
The Careers list shows Published and Not accepting applications.
Hide the Career
Use this when the role must not appear on the public site.
- Turn off Show on public careers site.
The page also closes applications. Open for applications is off. You cannot turn it on while the role is hidden.
A success message shows: This role is hidden from your public careers site.
The Careers list shows Not published.
If you try to open applications while the role is hidden, the form shows: Applications cannot be open when this role is hidden from the public careers site.
Resume applications
- Turn on Show on public careers site.
- Turn on Open for applications.
A success message shows: This role is now accepting applications.
The Careers list shows Published and Accepting applications.
After you finish
The Publish page keeps the new values. You do not select a save button. Each switch saves when you change it.
If the save fails, the page shows: Could not update public posting settings.
